Superstar trade that could impact Warriors: Donovan Mitchell
While rumors have also dwindled in the past few weeks, at one point, it felt extremely likely that Utah Jazz star guard Donovan Mitchell was going to end up in the Big Apple.
The Knicks need to figure out a package to bring in the star. With Utah having traded Rudy Gobert earlier in the offseason, they could be set for a full-blown rebuild which would take them out of championship contention for quite some time.
It’s even more brutal when considering the Jazz seemed just a few pieces away from a true title-contending team. Mitchell is one of the more electric guards in the league, averaging 25.9 points per game last season. He shot 45% from the field and 35.5% from deep.
To go along with his high-level scoring, Mitchell averaged 5.3 assists per game last season, the most of his career. The 25-year-old is also tied up for likely the next four seasons, so it would take a solid package to pry him from Utah.
Mitchell’s defensive weaknesses may make him less than ideal for most organizations, but he is a star that can transform a roster. Leaving the West would make life easier for Golden State and company.
