The NBA schedule hasn’t fully been released (that’ll be on Wednesday at 3 p.m. ET per the NBA), but bits and pieces are starting to come together.
The Warriors will get what they want with a Christmas day matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies, their second-round matchup that felt more like the Western Conference Finals. The series was gritty, and that game has a ton of promise.
The Golden State Warriors will welcome the LeBron James-led Los Angeles Lakers on October 18 to help commence the 2022-2023 NBA season.
On top of knowing that, fans were treated to the opening night slate, one that will also include the Warriors. Golden State will host the Los Angeles Lakers which is a repeat of the 2021 opening night which LA hosted the Dubs.
The Warriors will receive their rings on that night as well which makes it even better. Given the Lakers haven’t made any big-time moves yet this offseason, the Warriors should be in a good place to kick off the season with a win.
Of course, future first-ballot Hall of Famer LeBron James and Anthony Davis may have something to say about that, but the Lakers are again going to struggle with depth and may continue to be one of the league’s oldest rosters.
The Athletic’s Shams Charania also noted that the Celtics will host the 76ers, one of the oldest rivalries in the NBA. That will technically be the first game of the NBA season as it’ll likely tip off at 7:30 p.m. ET and then be followed by the Warriors-Lakers.
As of right now, it’ll be Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Davis and James headlining the later matchup, but there have been rumors around the Lakers making a push for James’ former teammate Kyrie Irving.
With that still unlikely, the Warriors will be able to commence their season against a team they beat in 3 of their 4 matchups. Neither team has notable additions either. They beat the Lakers on the road 121-114 to kick off last season.
