Team perfect placed to sign Warriors’ Jordan Poole: San Antonio Spurs

The Spurs traded star guard Dejounte Murray this offseason to let him compete for a championship during his prime. Sure, they received a nice package in return, but they wanted to let the guard link up his timeline with a team capable of succeeding.

A generational talent like Victor Wembanyama projected to go No. 1 overall in the 2023 NBA Draft certainly doesn’t hurt either. The Spurs recently gave a huge extension to former first-round pick Keldon Johnson, clearly envisioning a future with the star forward.

They seemingly plan on competing in the near future, and with the third-most projected cap space in the 2023 offseason, they should be able to ink a star. Poole would sync up with the timeline of Johnson well, both likely to enter their prime in the next few seasons.

With the forward more of a defensive star while possessing an increasingly competent offensive game, Poole would also compliment him well, giving the Spurs a solid core on both ends of the court.

Poole’s game should be tailored well to the Spurs’ organization, especially coming from Golden State. It would be a huge win for the Spurs to sign the star guard. That said, he’ll stay with the Dubs for now, but next offseason, the list of teams looking to steal Poole could be long.
