The Golden State Warriors are filled to the brim with current and blossoming star talent. And then, there is Moses Moody.
While his peers, Jonathan Kuminga, Jordan Poole and James Wiseman have all received All-Star projections — Moody has mostly flown under the radar.
It seems everyone is certain Moody will become a legit rotational player in the NBA. The No. 14 overall pick in the 2021 draft has all the intangibles of a sixth man. How long will it take Moody to fulfill this destiny and can he be even better than a role player?
Moses Moody has all the makings of a superb role player for the Golden State Warriors. It’s only a matter of time before he shines.
Moody might not have the superstar ceiling of a prospect like Kuminga but he already has more of his game developed.
A polished prospect, Moody showed how capable he is as a 3-point shooter and decision-maker during his rookie season. He averaged only 4.4 points on 36.4% 3-point shooting but had flashes of brilliance such as his 30-point outburst against Denver in March.
Standing at 6’6″, Moody is in the sweet spot where he can play multiple positions. A smart passer and a promising defender, there is no shoe Moody can’t fill in the future.
So why isn’t he getting more attention?
The Dubs already have multiple superstars on the roster and plenty of young talent to root for. For most, Moody seems like the player who is the best bet to become a legit contributor — but few people see his ceiling eclipsing any of the other stars on the roster.
That could change in his sophomore season.
With some of the Warriors’ backcourt depth missing now that Gary Payton and Damion Lee are gone, Moody could find himself with an increased opportunity to show his skills.
It might not happen overnight but with a player who is already so adept at multiple facets of the game, it is only a matter of time before Moody establishes himself as one of the league’s brightest young stars.
