We are less than two months away from the 2022-23 NBA season kicking off and the Golden State Warriors still don’t know who will finalize their roster. Here is why Carmelo Anthony should be an option.

As of now, the Dubs are holding out to see if Andre Iguodala will be back for another dance. The 2015 Finals MVP has been promised the final roster spot — but it remains unclear if Iggy is going to retire or not.

Melo, another aging star, could be a suitable replacement for Iguodala if he decides to hang it up. He is far from the all-time great scorer he once was but Carmelo can fill a familiar role for the Dubs.

Carmelo Anthony is a suitable bench piece for the Golden State Warriors to keep in their back pocket if Andre Iguodala retires.

The Warriors have always had a reliable power forward who could enter the game and stretch the floor. Carmelo can be the next man up, filling this role to perfection and giving the Dubs a bit of depth in their frontcourt.

Melo averaged 13.3 points on 37.5% 3-point shooting last season, respectable numbers for the 37-year-old vet. More notably, he appeared in 69 games — more than Iggy has in a single season since 2017.

Golden State would be able to count on Carmelo being available and ready to score off the bench. As for Iggy, his health isn’t the only concern.

Iguodala hasn’t been the same, that’s no secret. He’s hardly a threat to shoot the ball and his athleticism has dwindled enough to keep him from applying pressure on the rim. He can pass the ball, sure, but even his defense has declined in recent years.

Anthony has never been known for his defense but on a quality defensive team like the Warriors, Melo will hold his own. He’s also a strong rebounder, hauling in 4.2 per game last year.

Winning a championship is something Melo hasn’t checked off his list yet. The Dubs can provide him one final chance to get this job done — and he can actually help them along the way.
