Jonathan Kuminga, drafted No. 7 overall by the Golden State Warriors in 2021, made his international debut for DR Congo.

Competing in his first-ever World Cup, Kuminga scored 18 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, dished 1 assist and recorded 1 steal and block.

Kuminga shot 4-of-15 from the field and 0-for-7 from the 3-point, a slightly concerning stat line considering he has struggled to shoot during his rookie season, as well.

The Warriors are hopeful Kuminga will blossom into the NBA’s next great two-way threat but his lack of a 3-point shot is their biggest concern.

While it’s only one game, his clunker of a debut isn’t reassuring.

Jonathan Kuminga struggled a bit in his international debut, another reason for the Golden State Warriors to have growing concerns.

Kuminga did lead his team in scoring and it should be noted he isn’t even passed his teenage years yet.

The Dubs should be glad to see the 19-year-old putting in some work after recent reports suggest Kuminga has a lackluster work ethic.

Getting some international experience under his belt and competing against professionals throughout the summer is something Kuminga should not take for granted. Though, it isn’t great that he hasn’t been able to dominate in this or the NBA Summer League, just yet.

The Warriors will have to remain patient. While many of us wish Kuminga was further along in his development at this point, it’s important to keep in mind just how raw of a prospect Kuminga was entering the league.

His natural feel for the game is still something to praise. He’s uber-athletic and has a smooth touch around the rim. It’s rare that a player like this fails to make an impact, especially considering the versatility Kuminga can bring to the defensive end.

Plenty of players have struggled to shoot the ball at the beginning of their careers. It’s possible Kuminga just needs more time to develop his shot.

Nevertheless, the Dubs are hoping to see a bit more from Kuminga in the following weeks as they ramp up for the 2022-23 NBA season.
