James Wiseman’s development

Few things can raise the Golden State Warriors’ ceiling as much as having a dominant, seven-foot shot blocker in the paint.

All due respect to Kevon Looney, who fought (and won) battles above his weight class all last season — but James Wiseman has the potential to be a clear upgrade.

A truly big, big man, Wiseman can fill gaps that Looney physically could not. Wiseman was a menace of a shot blocker prior to his NBA career and while this hasn’t translated, his raw talent is clear.

Wiseman also has the potential to be an easy bucket-getter in the paint. He has athleticism and mobility that Looney lacks. Acting as a lob threat, punishing teams from the dunker spot or simply letting loose in transition — Wiseman can get it done in the paint.

Now if you really want to get crazy? Wiseman has flashed the ability to step beyond the 3-point line. He isn’t there yet but it’s obviously an aspect of his game he plans on developing.

A Chris Bosh-Esque rim-running threat is something that would put the Warriors well over the top in the near future.
