Draymond Green is the engine that makes the Golden State Warriors go. What can we expect from him in the 2022-23 NBA season?
Draymond Green is a beast waiting to be woken. Here is how the former DPOY can have a resurgence with the Golden State Warriors.
He’s a four-time champion and has kept the Warriors relevant entering a new decade. But as Draymond gets older, how much more is left in the tank?
Where we left off:
Midway through the 2021-22 NBA season, Golden State was in the mix for the best record in the league while sporting the best defense in the league — and Draymond was at the forefront of it all.
Green was looking like the DPOY favorite with all of the momentum in the world heading into the New Year.
Then, he got injured. Green missed roughly two months, returning in mid-March only to ramp up for the playoffs.
In the postseason, Green was a tad eradic. He was superb through the first three rounds, only to struggle intensely in the NBA Finals. It wasn’t until a magnificent defensive performance in Game 6 that Green truly reminded us of his talent.
What to expect:
With such a hit-or-miss season last year for Green, what can we expect from Draymond now that he’s potentially playing with a max contract on the line?
I’d expect the best.
The Dubs are in full resurgence mode and I don’t think Green is an exception.
They’ll be at full strength to start the year, giving Green all of the tools needed to be the glue guy he always has been.
With elite offensive and defensive players surrounding him, Green will be creating plays on one end while acting as the ultimate showstopper on the other.
At his best? Another Defensive Player of the Year run. At the worst? He regresses as a defender and continues to stink as a 3-point shooter.
Either way, the Dubs are going to be relying heavily on Green to bring it all together at the end of the season.
