Golden State Warriors: Takeaways from Denver loss

The Golden State Warriors fell short of a perfect 2-0 record, falling to the Denver Nuggets 128-123 on Friday night.

The fun times for the Golden State Warriors (1-1) didn’t last very long as the Denver Nuggets (1-1) handed them their first loss of a young season.

It was a close game that didn’t really feel very close for the most part and the Warriors were largely outplayed for most of the game.

They were down 20 at one point in the game and spent most of the time trying to catch up, and even so, they nearly completed the last-ditch comeback. There’s a lot to take away from this game so let’s dive into it.

JP struggles

One of the big things that the Dubs have loved about Jordan Poole in the past was his ability to carry the non-Steph minutes.

He’s blossomed in that role and has in the past carried defensively slanted lineups offensively and kept the team afloat when Steph sits. For a team as reliant on Steph as the Warriors have been for the most part this past decade, that was a welcome sight to see.

Last night though, Poole was quiet for the most part. He took 5 shots, the fewest shots he’s taken in a regular season since Jan 31st, 2022 against the Rockets where he took 4 shots. Of course, it’d be disingenuous to blame only him for why he took so few shots, which leads to the next point…
