Golden State Warriors: Takeaways from the Kings

Second Unit: Cause for Concern or on the Upswing?
The Warrior’s second unit has been a constant thorn in their side in this early season.
They’ve struggled to maintain leads, struggled to extend leads and when they get into a deficit, they almost certainly aren’t going to come back from them. There are plenty of reasons for this.
The first one was the infamous Jamychal Green, Kuminga, and Wiseman lineup that lasted about 1 and a half games before being shut down. That lineup lacked spacing, the defense struggled and was just about sandbagging Jordan Poole’s offense.
Last night, Steve Kerr inserted Moody instead of Kuminga and the lineup looked a lot better. Of Course, it doesn’t mean that Kuminga himself is negative, it’s more about how certain pieces on the roster just don’t fit together. Square peg into a round hole-type beat.
Today, in the second quarter they were much improved, actually breaking even in the opening minutes of the second quarter scoring 15 points and allowing 15 points before Steph Curry came in and opened the floodgates.
In the 4th quarter, however, they were nursing a 17-point lead, and eventually, the lead got cut down by 12 and the starters had to be brought in to close the game.
While they looked better tonight, the Warriors’ second unit is still a work in progress. It’s understandable given just how young they are but their clicking would be a major boon for the Warriors come April.
