Golden State Warriors’ star Stephen Curry striving for major milestone
Who knows where the Golden State Warriors would be without the exploits of two-time MVP Stephen Curry. The team has scraped to an underwhelming 4-7 record so far this season, but it could have been worse if not for Curry’s brilliance.
Last year’s Finals MVP has hit the ground running, averaging 32.6 points, 7.1 rebounds and 6.9 assists per game. But it’s the efficiency that jumps off the page, with Curry now looking to become the third player in NBA history to record multiple 50-40-90 seasons.
Golden State Warriors’ star Stephen Curry is striving towards joining Larry Bird and Steve Nash as the only players to record multiple 50-40-90 seasons.
A 50-40-90 season refers to a player shooting at least 50% from the field, 40% from three-point range and 90% from the free-throw line. Ten players have done it throughout history, including Curry during his unanimous MVP-winning season in 2015-16. Only two players have achieved the mark since — Malcolm Brogdon in 2018-19 and Kyrie Irving in 2020-21.
When asked at his press conference on Thursday, Curry was adamant in his desire to finish with another 50-40-90 season.
"“Absolutely. Always talking about efficiency and that standard you set, especially as a volume shot-taker and scorer…It is something I strive for…If I can be efficient, be productive and hit those numbers, it usually means good things."

The 34-year-old is off to a blistering start, shooting 51.2% from the floor, 43.1% from three and 93.4%. On top of his 50-40-90 season in 2015-16, Curry has also had six seasons of shooting at least 40% from deep and 90% from the charity stripe.
Curry is the only Golden State player to ever achieve the feat, although former Warrior Kevin Durant did it with the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2012-13 season. Jordan Poole may be the only other current Warrior capable of hitting the mark, with Klay Thompson having shot 90% from the line just once in his career.
Another 50-40-90 season would only add to Curry’s ever-growing resumé, with his legacy already cemented as the best shooter of all-time, a top two point-guard of all time, and at minimum, a top 15 player of all-time.
