Golden State Warriors return to MSG for first time since historic night
After losing the first three games of their annual trip to the East Coast, the road-weary Golden State Warriors traveled to Toronto for a renewal of the 2019 NBA Finals. With the best display of Warriors’ basketball this season away from Chase Center, the defending champions came away with a 126-110 victory.
The Warriors took to the floor at Scotiabank Arena inspired to take their league-worst road record (2-14) in a different direction. Jordan Poole, who played thirty-five minutes, led the Warriors’ scoring with 43 points on 14-23 from the field, 5-11 from distance, and 10-11 from the line. Slowing his game down and playing under control, Poole was brilliant all night.
The Golden State Warriors return to Madison Square Garden on Tuesday, with their last appearance forming one of the most memorable nights in NBA history.
On a Tuesday night in December 2021, on the world’s most famous stage, Stephen Curry surpassed NBA legend Ray Allen’s total of 2,973 to become the all-time leader in total three-pointers made during the regular season.
Curry now returns just over a year later in street clothes, suffering from a left shoulder injury from a freak play in the second-half of Golden State 112-104 loss to the Indiana Pacers to begin this road-trip.
Playing a veteran rotation against the Raptors, while restricting the meaningful minutes of the team’s young core, head coach Steve Kerr may have found the answers to winning on the road. Golden State limited their turnovers and untimely fouling, providing them with the tonic to record their first road win on this current trip and only their third of the season.
With a 1-3 record on this trip, the visiting Warriors will attempt to repeat Sunday afternoon’s outcome when they face the red-hot New York Knicks. Wednesday then brings a reunion with Kevin Durant at Barclays Center, with the goal of returning home with a 3-3 record before an eight-game home-stand starts with a much anticipated contest against the Memphis Grizzlies on Christmas Day.
