Golden State Warriors provide Stephen Curry injury update
The Golden State Warriors have all but confirmed superstar Stephen Curry will miss the team’s entire eight-game homestand. The franchise announced on Saturday that the reigning Finals MVP was making good progress from his shoulder injury sustained against the Indiana Pacers on December 14.
The Golden State Warriors have a 1-3 record since Stephen Curry’s injury, and they’ll have to continue without him for at least another seven games.
The timeline for Curry’s return was initially set at between 3-4 weeks, but it appears like it will be towards the end of that expectation, and could well extend further past a month. The two-time MVP will be re-evaluated in two weeks — 24 days post injury.
It remains a positive outcome for the franchise even if Curry’s absence extends into a second month. Speaking two days after the incident, the 34-year-old spoke of his anticipated recovery and what could have been season-ending surgery.
"“There’s (no treatment) right now, it’s just letting it settle. Once you get pain-free, then you work on getting your mobility and range of motion back, strength back and then back to basketball activities after that. The back end should be a lot quicker than the front end from what I’ve been told. Surgery would’ve been 4-6 months. Nobody was trying to deal with that right now.”"
Golden State had an excellent win in Toronto last Sunday, yet have otherwise predictably struggled without their superstar. They’ve lost each of their other three games by double-digits, including back-to-back defeats to the New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets by a combined 68 points.
The Warriors remain without Curry and starting small-forward Andrew Wiggins, with the latter set to miss another game when Golden State face the Memphis Grizzlies on Christmas Day. In a positive for the franchise, Donte DiVincenzo will return following a non-covid illness.
