Golden State Warriors: It’s time to lay the wreath at Klay Thompson’s feet
Nearing the first anniversary since Klay Thompson returned to the game he loves, and the opportunity to play again in front of the fans who bring him so much joy, and yet it’s passing without a media whisper.
Why the silence from the broadcast sets of so many? The answer to that question is quite revealing. Your false narrative did not age well.
He told you to hold his beer; now he is back to the player we love to remember, and handing him back a cold one is not enough. It’s time to bend the knee and lay the wreath at Klay Thompson’s feet.
On a stormy January Monday night, and to the elation of all Golden State Warriors’ fans, Klay Thompson added a paragraph to his legacy.
With Stephen Curry, Andrew Wiggins, Jonathan Kuminga, James Wiseman and JaMychal Green in street clothes, Thompson scored 54 points, along with eight rebounds, three assists and a block in a thrilling double-overtime win over the Atlanta Hawks.
During the first overtime and with the Warriors down one with less than 30 seconds to play, Thompson waved off his teammates and hit a stepback three over former Warrior Justin Holiday. The shot sent the standing Chase Center crowd levitating to the rafters. Most at home watching on their couches could not believe what they had just witnessed, but to an astute few, this was the vintage Thompson we have been missing.
No names of social media content contributors, former players who host podcasts, or broadcasting corporations need to be exposed for the harm to a man who brings joy to so many. Those who have watched his journey never listened to your callous proclamations, and thankfully, neither did Klay Alexander Thompson, to the delight of all Warrior fans.
The time is passing quickly to when Thompson and Stephen Curry will display the pure joy they play this game with, and the incomparable euphoria that so many of DubNation will miss at some point in the future. Put aside the analytic comparisons, the confirmation biases, and the quest for clicks, and believe what you see. Klay Thompson is back to the player so many adore, and more importantly, is back playing with joy for the game he loves so much.
