Gui Santos follows career night with another impressive performance

With 2074 people in attendance at the Dollar Loan Center, the Golden State Warriors G League affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors, defeated the G League Ignite 125-100 thanks to Gui Santos’ 25 points.

Santos’ performance follows a career-high 31-point effort in a heartbreaking 113-112 loss to the Stockton Kings at Stockton Civic Auditorium last week. On the 30th of December, Santa Cruz dropped both ends of back-to-back games to begin the regular G League season 0-2.

Playing inspired Golden State Warriors’ influenced basketball behind Gui Santos’ 25 points, the Santa Cruz Warriors crushed the G league Ignite.

With a franchise record 40 assists and shooting 49-for-82 (60%) from the field, 16-for-34 (47%) from three-point range and 6-7 (86%) from the free-throw line, Santa Cruz played their finest complete game of the season.

Santos and Dusty Hannahs contributed 25 points each. The brazilian was an extremely efficient 11-for-14 from the field and 3-6 from behind the arc, also adding four rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Santa Cruz torched the Ignite for 67 first-half points, expanding their lead to 25 points midway through the fourth-quarter and never looking back. Zeke Moore followed with 21 points, four assists and two rebounds on 8-for-12 shooting and 5-for-8 from distance, while Lester Quinones had a double-double with 16 points, 13 assists and seven rebounds The two teams will return to The Dollar Loan Center on Friday for the second night of back-to-back games.

For Santos, the 6’8”, 209 lb 20-year-old wing, it’s now consecutive outings in which he’s making a statement that he belongs on an NBA roster. Santos struggling during the showcase portion of the G League season, but has since put on display the reason why the Warriors drafted him with the 55th overall pick in the second-round of last year’s NBA draft.

Steve Kerr and Bob Myers have provided a path for the young Brazilian star to accomplish his dream of playing on an NBA roster one day. Under the watchful eyes of Santa Cruz head coach Seth Cooper, Santos will continue his development. With a solid summer league performances later this year, he may come out of training camp next season with a spot on the Warriors main roster.
