Veteran centers available for the Golden State Warriors a 10-day contract: Dwight Howard

Along with DeMarcus Cousins, Dwight Howard is clearly the biggest name still available for teams to consider. But at 37 and currently plying his trade in Taiwan, is Howard’s NBA career officially over?

While he may never get another opportunity, Howard’s performances last season were actually pretty good. He averaged 6.2 points and 5.9 rebounds in 16.2 minutes with the Los Angeles Lakers last season, even starting 27 games due to the absence of Anthony Davis.

After a number of years where Howard went from team-to-team and was never able to contribute to winning, he finally accepted a minor but effective role with the Lakers and Philadelphia 76ers over the past three seasons.

Howard has already spoken of his desire to join the Warriors in recent months, believing he could be a nice foil for Kevon Looney while helping the development of James Wiseman.

"“I know they have Kevon Looney, and I know they have the young boy (James) Wiseman…But I’m Dwight Howard. Wiseman can learn so much from me because he’s headed in that direction of being a great big man.”"

Whether the three-time Defensive Player of the Year is willing to leave Taiwan just for a 10-day contract is yet to be seen, but it may be worth a phone call nonetheless.
