Western Conference Executive hilariously links LeBron James to Golden State Warriors
There’s few teams that have been more disappointing than the Golden State Warriors so far this season, and yet the Los Angeles Lakers might be one of them. Despite a recent five-game winning streak, the Lakers’ 19-22 record has many questioning the future of superstar LeBron James.
The idea of James and Stephen Curry playing together has long tantalised many fans, with the pair dominating the past decade of NBA basketball. It’s a fantasy that should be left to the All-Star game or the battlefields of NBA 2K, but the struggles of both teams may have re-ignited the idea.
A Western Conference executive believes the Golden State Warriors could win a bidding war should LeBron James demand a trade once eligible.
James signed a two-year, $97 million contract that will kick in next season, but for now it makes him ineligible to be traded. He’s never requested a trade in his historic career, though that could change in his quest for more titles. If he does, a Western Conference executive told Heavy Sports’ Sean Deveney that Golden State could be well placed to make a move.
"“If there is a bidding war going on at some point, the Warriors are in a great position because they can give you the young guys—(James) Wiseman or (Jonathan) Kuminga or (Moses) Moody, or (Pat) Baldwin, whoever the Lakers want. But you have to add either (Jordan) Poole or (Andrew) Wiggins, and that’s not easy. But if they want to win now, you can give up Poole if you are getting back LeBron, right? If they keep Draymond (Green) and come back with Steph (Curry), Klay Thompson, Draymond and LeBron, that would be a fun, fun team to watch.”"
Perhaps the fact Golden State could utilize Poole rather than Wiggins makes this a little more legitimate. A starting five of Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, James and Draymond Green? That’s a tempting proposition despite four of those players entering the twilight of their careers.
It would take the Warriors giving up on their entire future though. Sure, it would be fun for a couple of years, but the following period might be extremely tough — Some may argue that the team’s’ future without Curry may be tough regardless.
James may be 38-years-old but he’s still proving to be one of the best players in the league — He’s averaging 29.1 points, 8.2 rebounds and 6.7 assists on 51% shooting in 31 games this season. As for a potential move to Golden State, it should remain on the list of hilarious hypotheticals.
