Three players who shined in Golden State Warriors’ win at the Alamodome
By Kayson Lee
The Golden State Warriors had something unexpected happen to them against the San Antonio Spurs, and honestly, it was amazing to watch.
The Golden State Warriors were lead by Donte DiVincenzo and company in their 31-point win over the San Antonio Spurs on Friday.
If you’re a Warriors fan, then you’ve likely seen the days where the stars of this team quite literally put the team on their back. Stephen Curry, as we know, has single handedly taken over games, along with, at times, his splash brother in Klay Thompson. Friday night in the Alamodome was different.
The Warriors supporting cast carried the team in this one. In fact, this may have been their best game of the season. Three players in particular played some amazing basketball, making the historic night even more fun to watch. You could say it was a bit unexpected, considering the big three and Jordan Poole were all healthy.
Three players who shined in the Warriors’ 144-113 win over the Spurs.
Donte DiVincenzo
It would be impossible to not have him on this list given it felt like he was the best player on the floor all night, besides maybe for Poole. DiVincenzo played in the Alamodome before and actually won a College National Championship with Villanova there, ironically against Poole’s Michigan Wolverines. That experience seemed to hold him in good stead because it appeared he could do no wrong.
DiVincenzo had his shot falling, often looking effortless when he was pulling up from deep. The one aspect that may have stood out the most, though, was how aggressive he was on his cuts, leading to open baskets on several occasions. He had 22 points with four threes to go with seven rebounds and five assists, and this was certainly the player Golden State thought they were getting when they signed him during the off-season.
Moses Moody
Moody was drafted as a guy who everyone thought could develop into a future star. While that hasn’t quite worked out, the former Arkansas Razorback played one of his better games this season, even if the box score doesn’t necessarily say so.
The second-year wing played great defense as he was often times forced into playing bigger than he is, but he managed well. That has been a big storyline of the Warriors this season – guys stepping up in the front court to help with depth. Moody did that on Friday.
The Warriors destroyed San Antonio on dribble handoffs all night, and Moody was one example of that as he hit a deep three with Kevon Looney assisting on the play. If he can do what he did, come in early in the first quarter and play key minutes, then more opportunities could be ahead.
Anthony Lamb
As said earlier, the Warriors have needed front court depth all season long, and Lamb has done well trying to help with that issue. He certainly aided with that against the Spurs, providing defense, rebounding and scoring in the massive win.
Lamb had two threes that were absolutely beautiful, as he pulled up from deep on the fast break with no hesitation, draining both. He finished with 13 points on a combination of three-point shooting and running the lane on fast breaks, while he also contributed five rebounds.
The Warriors currently have Lamb on a two-way contract, and it’s looking more and more like they’ll need to convert his contract to make him playoff eligible.
The supporting cast showed up on Friday in a game where they were needed. Curry still hasn’t looked completely himself after the injury, and the same can be said for Andrew Wiggins. Given their bench woes early in the season, their production against the Spurs was a nice unexpected result and something Golden State will hope continues.
