The Golden State Warriors got one of their better wins of the year on Sunday against the Washington Wizards, breaking an unwanted season hoodoo in the process.

Should the game have been as close as it was? Definitely not. Sure, the Warriors didn’t have Klay Thompson, but they still had Stephen Curry, Jordan Poole, Andrew Wiggins, and Draymond Green, who all combined for 104 of the Warriors’ 127 points.

On the other end, the Wizards were without their best player in Bradley Beal. Instead, they were led by Kristaps Porzingis who scored 32, while Washington also had four payers have at least 14 points in the game – one of the many reasons why the game remained so close.

The Washington Wizards came close to extending the Golden State Warriors’ winless streak when it comes to the second game of a road back-to-back.

This was the Warriors’ second road game of a back-to-back, and winning the game allowed them to accomplish something they hadn’t done all season. Golden State played the Chicago Bulls on Sunday, losing in a bad way as Nikola Vucevic scored an equal career-high 43 in the Bulls’ 132-118 victory.

Had they lost the game to the Wizards, the Warriors would still be winless on the year in the second game of a road back-to-back. Instead, they got the job done behind Curry’s 41 points and a big fourth-quarter from Draymond Green.

The Warriors are now 1-5 on the second night of a road back-to-back — that seems like way too many games only halfway through the season. They’ll have another road back-to-back in their next two games when they face the Celtics in Boston for a Finals rematch on Thursday, before they travel to Cleveland for a rematch of the 2015-2018 Finals against the Cavaliers on Friday.

The positive is that the Warriors will return home after Friday’s game, meet the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday and then have two days off before what’s sure to be a monster matchup with the Memphis Grizzlies.

Golden State’s 5-17 road record is second-worst in the league behind the Houston Rockets, but despite the difficulty they’ll face against the Celtics and Cavaliers, it gives them the opportunity to amend their record and make a major statement.
