Golden State Warriors’ absence from Shams’ trade report may illustrate mindset
Some Golden State Warriors’ fans are becoming impatient with the team’s lack of roster moves, with head coach Steve Kerr limited to a nine or ten-man rotation for much of the last month.
Further than that, the Warriors’ underwhelming form the entire season has many requesting a move regardless of current injury issues. However, the reigning champions’ absence from an extensive trade report won’t provide optimism to those wishing for a deal.
The Golden State Warriors are absent from a 12-team trade report that could signify their mindset ahead of the NBA trade deadline.
The Athletics’ Shams Charania delivered his latest intel (subscription required) on potential moves around the league, with the February 9 trade deadline now less than a month away.
Golden State failed to feature in the report despite nearly half the league being discussed. Battling to a .500 record at 22-22, and with Draymond Green and Kevon Looney logging big minutes over the first half of the season, many believe the Warriors need reinforcements at the center position.
San Antonio Spurs’ big man Jakob Poeltl has previously been linked to Golden State, but there’s no mention of the Warriors in Charania’s report on the 27-year-old Austrian.
"“Rival executives believe Poeltl will approach the $20 million per year range in a new deal during the offseason. There’s no question the Spurs will hold a high price threshold for any deal involving Poeltl.” He has drawn interest from the Toronto Raptors and the Boston Celtics.”"
Other players involved in the report include Poeltl’s teammates Doug McDermott and Josh Richardson, Charlotte Hornets’ quartet Terry Rozier, Mason Plumlee, Jalen McDaniels and Kelly Oubre Jr., Houston Rockets’ Eric Gordon, Toronto Raptors’ starters excluding Scottie Barnes, former Warrior D’Angelo Russell, and Utah Jazz trio Mike Conley, Malik Beasley and Jarred Vanderbilt.
Perhaps Golden State’s absence is simply a sign that Bob Myers and the front office are keeping their cards close to their chest, but from a fan’s perspective, we’re no closer to understanding if the Warriors will do anything.
