The Golden State Warriors have announced that Moses Moody will join rookies Patrick Baldwin Jr. and Ryan Rollins for a stint with their G League affiliate in Santa Cruz.

It’s been a disappointing season for Moody who’s been unable to demand and nail down a spot in Steve Kerr’s rotation, that despite many believing the second-year wing would be the most ready-to-go of the Warriors’ three recent lottery picks heading into the season.

Golden State Warriors’ Moses Moody will look to gain some much needed reps, and build some confidence, in an important G League experience ahead.

Moody got some limited opportunities during the Warriors’ recent spate of injury issues, but with the team regaining key players and headed back towards full health, the 20-year-old appears buried to the Golden State bench. It’s ultimately left no choice for management who must be somewhat disappointed in the stalled development of their 14th selection from the 2021 draft.

Moody’s played double-digit minutes in just two of the Warriors’ last nine games — a blowout win against the San Antonio Spurs at the Alamodome, as well as the upset win in Cleveland last Friday where Golden State were missing four starters.

After playing small but genuine minutes against the Dallas Mavericks in last year’s Western Conference Finals, there was optimism that Moody could develop into a 20 minute per game player for the Warriors this season. Unfortunately that’s not been the case, with Jonathan Kuminga having been the shining light of the team’s younger brigade.

Moody’s raw numbers have actually been okay — he’s averaging 5.2 points on 45.2% shooting from the floor and 36.7% from three in 14.8 minutes per game this season. The Arkansas product should be confident of producing strong performances in the G League given his impressive display at the Las Vegas Summer League during the preseason.

His spot on the Warriors’ roster shouldn’t be totally guaranteed, with Moody’s lack of progression opening up the possibility of him being involved in a trade before the February 9 deadline.
