The chances of a trade involving the Golden State Warriors may be gathering steam as we approach Thursday’s trade deadline. The widely-held presumption was that the reigning champions would let the period come and go without a move, but that view may be starting to shift.

The Golden State Warriors are becoming ‘more active’ in trade discussions around their young players, according to The Athletics’ Anthony Slater.

Anthony Slater joined Tim Kawakami and Marcus Thompson for a trade deadline preview of the ‘Warriors Plus-Minus’ podcast. Slater outlined his belief that Golden State could yet be willing to move one of their talented youngsters for a win-now asset over the next 48 hours.

"“The noise around the league is their being a little bit more active than they have been. The aggression seems to be ticking up. That does not mean anything is going to happen…I believe it’s more of a possibility they do something than I believed a week ago”"

Perhaps most interestingly, Thompson responded by saying, “I don’t think one of them will be named James, and I don’t think one of them will be named Jonathan.” That would leave Moses Moody as the likely candidate to be moved.

It’s important to note that Moody’s $3.7 million contract would limit who the Warriors could acquire in return. As the trio touched on later in the episode, a potential deal could involve Moody and another rookie-contracted player around the league. Names mentioned included Detroit’s Saddiq Bey and Charlotte’s PJ Washington, both players who have been involved in speculation over recent weeks.

It’s difficult to evaluate what Moody’s value would be, although it’s fair to say he’s no longer worth the lottery pick that Golden State used to select him in the 2021 draft. Regardless of the Warriors’ activity, it’s bound to be a frenetic final few hours leading up to the deadline.
