Andrew Wiggins is set to miss his third-straight game as the Golden State Warriors prepare to battle his former team, the Minnesota Timberwolves, in a crucial matchup at Chase Center on Sunday.

The 27-year-old has now been away from the team for nearly two weeks while he deals with a personal matter. Meanwhile, Draymond Green is questionable for the game having missed Friday’s win over the Houston Rockets with a right knee contusion.

After a disastrous ending in the teams’ last matchup, the Golden State Warriors will be hoping for a change of fortune against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Sunday’s game will decide the season series, with the teams splitting their opening two matchups in Minnesota earlier this season. Golden State got a comfortable 137-113 win back on November 27, but their offense crumbled last time around at the start of the month. The Warriors scored just 43 points over the final 29 minutes of the game, with the Timberwolves overturning a 14-point fourth-quarter deficit to win by five in overtime.

A win over the Rockets and some other favourable results have pushed the Warriors back up to seventh in the Western Conference, though they still share a .500 record with the eighth-placed Timberwolves and ninth-placed Utah Jazz.

Golden State have won six of their last seven at Chase Center, continuing the trend of contrasting home and road form all throughout this season. Karl-Anthony Towns remains out for Minnesota as he recovers from a calf injury, while key bench contributors Jaylen Nowell and Taurean Prince are questionable for the contest.

It’s also a new-look Timberwolves from the one that the Warriors have previously seen this season. Just days before the deadline they moved on from former Warrior D’Angelo Russell, sending him to the Los Angeles Lakers in a three-team trade that saw them acquire veteran point-guard Mike Conley from the Utah Jazz. The deal has seen Conley reunite his pick-and-roll partnership with towering center Rudy Gobert.

Sunday’s matchup could prove critical for each team, with both harboring ambitions of pushing up out of the play-in mix and into a top six playoff spot. Golden State will be confident given their imposing home record, but the availability of Green could well be the swinging factor in what promises to be a close contest.
