Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry nearing return from leg injury
The Golden State Warriors have done an admirable job in the absence of their superstar and leader Stephen Curry, winning three-straight games at home to move up to a share for fifth in the tightly-packed Western Conference.
Yet there’s little doubt the Warriors need their reigning Finals MVP back shortly in order to solidify a playoff spot and prepare for what they hope is another sustained postseason run.
Two-time MVP Stephen Curry could be back for the Golden State Warriors in the next week as he recovers from a left leg injury.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, “there’s optimism Curry will return sometime on next week’s three-game road trip.” Curry has missed nine-straight games after a left leg injury sustained against the Dallas Mavericks on February 4, with the Warriors producing a 5-4 stretch over this current period. The reigning champions have back-to-back games against the Los Angeles Clippers and New Orleans Pelicans to round out their five-game home stand.
Curry participated in a full scrimmage with the Santa Cruz Warriors on Tuesday before watching his team produce a remarkable 41-point turnaround to gain a crucial win over the Portland Trail Blazers.
Golden State will hope that Curry becomes available for their three-game road trip starting Sunday against the Los Angeles Lakers. The Warriors follow that with games against the Thunder in Oklahoma City on Tuesday, and another showdown with the Grizzlies in Memphis on Thursday.
Curry is averaging 29.4 points this season on 49.5% from the floor, 42.7% from three-point range, and 92.2% from the free-throw line. The 34-year-old’s seen has been marred by injury despite the impressive numbers, having already missed 24 of the team’s 62 games.
