Golden State Warriors: Lamb returns to G League as Moody leads scoring again
After playing his 50th and final game on a two-way contract for the Golden State Warriors on Sunday, Anthony Lamb has returned to the G League in Santa Cruz’s loss to the Birmingham Squadron on Tuesday.
Lamb’s future has been a bone of contention in recent days as the Warriors decide whether or not to convert him to a full contract. A determination on that won’t come until at least later in the week when Lester Quinones’ 10-day contract concludes.
Despite a trio of Golden State Warriors active, the Santa Cruz Warriors went down to the Birmingham 127-112 at Legacy Arena.
Lamb recorded 13 points, four rebounds and eight assists in the contest, but shot just 5-for-12 from the floor including 1-for-5 from three-point range. The 25-year-old also added two steals and four blocks, yet the Warrior defense was unable to stop the Squadrons from shooting nearly 50% from the floor and 40% from three as they poured in 127 points.
After scoring an equal team-high 24 points against the Cleveland Charge at Chase Center on Saturday, Moses Moody again led Santa Cruz in that department with 25 against the Squadrons.
Moody shot 11-for-20 from the floor including 2-for-5 from deep, also adding seven rebounds and four assists in a positive all-around display. The recently signed Quinones was far quieter than what he’s produced in recent times, scoring just 11 points on 5-for-12 shooting while being a team-low -22 in plus/minus.
Golden State’s draft-and-stash forward Gui Santos may see his minutes reduced with the return of Lamb, with the Brazilian recording six points and six rebounds off the bench. The Warriors shot worse from the field, had more turnovers, and had less offensive rebounds — not a good recipe for success.
Santa Cruz have now lost back-to-back games after a win to start the month. They will look to turn the tables on Birmingham when the teams meet again at the same venue on Thursday.
