3 Warriors who are playing for their future in Golden State

Holding onto fifth-spot in the Western Conference and just one game from the Phoenix Suns in fourth, the Golden State Warriors’ attention remains on conquering the NBA and delivering back-to-back titles.

Yet the reigning champions’ underwhelming season to date has offered plenty of questions on the future of the franchise, particularly surrounding their bold and audacious two-timeline plan.

It’s bound to be a big end to the season for the Golden State Warriors, particularly for some who may be playing for their future at the franchise.

The Warriors already answered a giant piece of the puzzle at last month’s trade deadline, pivoting significantly by dealing former number two overall pick James Wiseman. In a major win-now move, they brought back fan favourite Gary Payton II from the Portland Trail Blazers.

Regardless of the outcome on this 2022-23 season, Golden State will have major decisions to make during the offseason. However, that will only exacerbate if the franchise suffers a meek early playoff exit.

With the highest payroll in the league, the Warriors have been largely committed to winning across a dynasty period that’s seen four championships in eight seasons. At some point this era has to end, but whether it happens this offseason remains to be seen.

Aside from superstar and two-time MVP Stephen Curry, how many untouchables do Golden State have on this roster? Maybe you could add Klay Thompson to that list given his stature and history at the franchise. Either way, there’s some who remain highly likely to be on the roster, and some who may be seeing the remainder of the season as an audition for next year and beyond.

Let’s take a look at three players that may be in that position, each of which are at completely different points of their career.
