JaMychal Green

It’s been a tough season for JaMychal Green, finding himself in-and-out of Steve Kerr’s rotation and also dealing with his fair share of injury and illness. Most fans would suggest the 32-year-old is fighting an uphill battle to remain with the franchise beyond this season should he wish.

However, Green’s recent play may have thrown a spanner in those thoughts. The veteran big is currently in his best stretch of the season, and it’s coming at an important time given some of the unavailability issues Golden State have faced.

Green has averaged 10.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, and one block in 15.8 minutes across his last six games. He’s also shooting 60% from the floor and 50% from three-point range on 3.7 attempts per game. It’s that perimeter shooting that’s often the swing factor for him, and he’s hit a hot stretch to improve his season percentage to 38.1%.

He’s yet to master the Warriors’ defensive scheme, often finding himself out of position and failing to be any sort of difference-maker on that end. At his best he can be a slight shot-blocking presence, at least in comparison to some of Golden State’s other options.

You’d have to say he remains behind the eight ball to earn a contract for next season, though there’s seemingly life in his career yet. It’s unlikely Green is part of the playoff rotation, but he’ll be one of the first called upon should the Warriors continue to face injury issues.
