Golden State legend may have played his last minutes in a Warriors uniform
By Justin Lee
The Golden State Warriors will be without a key player for the foreseeable future, with the franchise announcing on Wednesday that veteran Andre Iguodala will undergo surgery on a fractured left wrist next week.
In other words, the 39-year-old likely won’t play for the rest of the season. It usually takes multiple months to recover from this kind of injury, and with less than four weeks left in the regular season, any miniscule chance of a return would be predicated on how far the Warriors go during the postseason.
In a sad thought for players, staff and the fanbase, Andre Iguodala may have indeed played his final minutes for the Golden State Warriors.
Iguodala has contributed so much to the franchise — he is a Finals MVP for crying out loud. The guy repeatedly had the task of guarding LeBron James in multiple NBA finals. He so often has hit the big shots when the Warriors needed it most, and has four rings to prove an immense legacy.
Iguodala is a Hall of Famer — there’s not too many people that would argue with that statement. The Warriors will miss his veteran presence and leadership, not to mention the championship experience he brings and the chemistry of so many years with the same core. He’s been a perfect fit for Golden State across nearly a decade of time with the team.
But from an on-court standpoint, there was already question marks on his role and what sort of impact he could have. The 39-year-old had already confirmed this would be his last season, and now there’s a genuine chance that he may never take an NBA floor again.
If there was any thought of playing into a 20th season, then this injury could very well be a nail in that idea. On the positive, Iguodala will retire as a Warrior where he’s made the most impact, will likely have his number 9 jersey retired by the franchise, and will eventually enter the NBA Hall of Fame. Still, this news definitely sucks to hear.
