In what shapes as a near must-win game against the Atlanta Hawks on Friday, an already short-handed Golden State Warriors are sweating on thumb soreness for superstar Stephen Curry.

The two-time MVP exploded for 50 points against the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday, but his outburst wasn’t enough as the Warriors went down 134-126 in a high-scoring contest. Curry is now listed as questionable to face the Hawks as his side looks to break a nine-game road losing streak.

Already without starters Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins, the Golden State Warriors can’t afford to be minus anyone else against the Atlanta Hawks.

Kevon Looney joins Curry on the injury report with the starting big man probable due to back soreness. Golden State are already down his usual frontcourt teammates with Draymond Green out with suspension and Andrew Wiggins to miss a 14th straight game as he deals with personal issues.

The Hawks are on the complete opposite end of the spectrum with only Jalen Johnson on the injury report as probable due to hamstring tightness. Atlanta have an additional three players assigned to the G League, including two-way players Donovan Williams and Trent Forrest.

The hosts are currently clinging to eighth spot in the Eastern Conference with a 34-35 record, having lost four of their last six games. Atlanta are also 0-2 entering the final game of three-straight at home, with losses to the Boston Celtics and Minnesota Timberwolves by an average margin of 15.

The Warriors overcame the Hawks in a classic encounter after two overtimes in their earlier meeting this season, winning it 143-141 thanks to a buzzer-beating layup from Kevon Looney. Atlanta has since moved on from previous head coach Nate McMillan, signing former long-term Utah Jazz leader Quin Snyder.

With the Hawks 22nd in the league in defensive rating, and given the Warriors’ defensive woes on the road, expect another high-scoring game as both teams seek to further strengthen their hopes of a playoff spot.
