Golden State Warriors’ Jordan Poole surges in league-wide popularity
Despite an up-and-down season filled with both exciting and underwhelming performances, Golden State Warriors guard Jordan Poole has continued his surge to one of the NBA’s most popular players.
Poole was front-and-center in alot of what the Warriors did this season, joining Kevon Looney in playing all 82 games for the first time in his four-year career.
Jersey sales and digital engagement suggests Golden State Warriors’ Jordan Poole is perhaps the most popular NBA player yet to earn an All-Star appearance.
Earlier this week the NBA revealed Poole was the ninth-most viewed player on social media, with 293 million views on his highlights. LeBron James was at the top with 1.3 billion views, sitting above Poole’s teammate Stephen Curry in second at 881 million.
Poole was the only player in the top ten yet to make an All-Star or even All-NBA team, aside from French Phenom and consensus number one overall pick Victor Wembanyama. Poole sat above back-to-back MVP Nikola Jokic who rounded out the list.
Further proving Poole’s surge in popularity, the NBA released the top selling jerseys from NBAStore.com over the second half of this season. He was ranked among the league’s best at 15th, again the only player on the list yet to make an All-Star appearance. Unsurprisingly, James and Curry also sat at the apex in jersey sales as well.
While his play can lead to frustration at times, it’s easy to see why Poole’s popularity is continually on the rise. He’s one of the most enigmatic players in the league, capable of brilliance few others can produce. He’s also one of the most charismatic, often providing ‘meme material’ with his hilarious reactions to various plays and referee calls.
Poole will be hoping to create more highlights during the postseason, having done so last year with a number of big games and a couple of crazy buzzer-beaters. More so though, he’ll be wanting to repeat the success and become a two-time NBA champion by the end of June.
