Key Golden State Warriors guard pops up on injury report ahead of Game 2
The Golden State Warriors will look to bounce back from a Game 1 defeat when they once again meet the Sacramento Kings at Golden 1 Center on Monday. The reigning champions, now a combined 11-31 on the road this season, will be looking to steal Game 2 and take home-court advantage heading back to Chase Center.
Golden State had more than their fair share of chances on Saturday, holding a double-digit lead late in the third-quarter and then having a wide-open Andrew Wiggins corner three that would have gave them a two-point lead with ten seconds remaining. They ultimately couldn’t the job done, elevating the pressure ahead of Monday’s game.
Jordan Poole has popped up on the NBA’s official injury report as the Golden State Warriors prepare for Game 2 against the Sacramento Kings.
Warrior guard Jordan Poole has been listed as questionable for Game 2 with an ankle sprain, having sustained the injury during the second-half of Saturday’s loss. The fourth-year guard collided heavily with opposing guard Davion Mitchell after a hard drive to the rim late in the third-quarter.
After taking a short moment to compose himself and get up gingerly, Poole knocked down the two free-throws and played out the game. However, it clearly impacted his game for the remainder as the Kings produced the comeback to claim a 126-123 win.
The two made free throws gave Poole 17 points on only eight shots in the final minute of the third period. From there he would be incapable of producing the same offensive output, failing to score during his 6:27 of gametime in the fourth. That included missing his two field-goal attempts, while he was also unable to add to his three assists.
Poole was one of two Golden State players, alongside Kevon Looney, to play in all 82 games during the regular season. In fact, he hasn’t missed a game, regular season or playoffs, since a six-game absence ended on December 28, 2021.
Poole’s defensive limitations has seen many suggest he should be playing less in a series where he can be exploited by the Kings’ electrifying guards, but his absence as Golden State’s backup point-guard would undoubtedly leave a major hole Steve Kerr is almost powerless to fill. Game 2 begins at 7:00 pm PT on Monday night.
