Finals MVP: 2022

Stephen Curry is the greatest Finals MVP in Golden State Warriors history. When he took home the hardware in June 2022, it ended a long, overblown conversation about Steph’s performance in the Finals. Whereas the running joke involved the idea of Curry shrinking on the big stage, the reality is that he has always been a big performer in the Finals.

In 2016 when Steph was playing injured, it was the only time he has averaged fewer than 26 points per game in a Finals series. Outside of that year, he has scored an average of 28.4 points across 27 total Finals games in five postseasons.

When he clinched the trophy in 2022, he did it while putting up 31.2 points per game and shooting career-best percentages from three and overall in a Finals series. Once again, Steph proved to be one of the greatest offensive players of all time in driving the Warriors’ offense up and over the league-leading Celtics defense.

One could make the argument that Kevin Durant deserves the top spot here over Steph, and Durant’s 2017 Finals run certainly gives him a case. But Curry’s 2022 Finals MVP simply meant more to the Warriors after all the injury trouble and missing out on the playoffs two seasons in a row. Steph is the greatest Warrior of all time, and he is the top Finals MVP in franchise history.
