Warriors’ Draymond Green hilariously proven correct after big free agency call
It appears the Memphis Grizzlies have heeded the words of Draymond Green, with the Golden State Warriors’ forward hilariously proven correct after his fiery back-and-forth with Dillon Brooks during the regular season.
Brooks will be a free agent come the offseason, and according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Grizzlies have told the controversial 27-year-old that “he will not be brought back under any circumstances.”
The Memphis Grizzlies have made a big free agency call on Dillon Brooks that mirrors comments previously made by the Golden State Warriors’ Draymond Green.
Green and Brooks had tension-fueled comments less than two months ago, coinciding with two matchups between the Warriors and Grizzlies within ten days of each other. The former Defensive Player of the Year left no stone unturned in providing his thoughts on Brooks.
"“If you ever wondered why the Memphis Grizzlies are not ready to compete for a NBA championship, look no further than this idiot right here. They’re actually depending on this guy to help them win a championship… You run around talking about a dynasty? The dynasty starts after you, not with you.”"
The Grizzlies now agree with Green, believing that any potential future dynasty doesn’t include the former Oregon product. Given Brooks has averaged at least 27.5 minutes in five of his six seasons, it’s still somewhat surprising that Memphis aren’t interested in bringing Brooks back even on a reduced contract and role.
Clearly the franchise is sick of putting up with Brooks’ antics, the latest of which included verbal on and off-court exchanges with LeBron James. It didn’t end well for the Memphis guard/forward who shot a paltry 23.8% on seven three-point attempts per game as the Grizzlies went down in six games.
Brooks has become one of, if not the biggest NBA villain over the last two seasons, and that now puts into question where he could possibly end up in free agency. The Canadian is coming off a three-year, $35 million contract with the Grizzlies.
Brooks most certainly won’t be ending up with the Warriors, and there’ll certainly be a plethora of teams that will have also put a line through him come free agency. For now, Green has had the last laugh on the beef between the duo.
