While his mind is focused on helping the Golden State Warriors out of their current 3-1 hole against the Los Angeles Lakers, Draymond Green can take solace in having earned another career accolade on Tuesday.

According to the Athletic’s Shams Charania, Green has made the NBA All-Defensive Second-Team for a second successive season. Unsurprisingly, he’s the lone Warrior in a season where the defending champions often struggled on that end of the floor.

The Golden State Warriors’ road record prevented Draymond Green from reaching NBA All-Defensive First Team honours for a fifth time.

Golden State’s hugely contrasting form at home and on the road was born through the same disparity on the defensive end. Led by Green, the Warriors held the third-ranked defense at home and appeared very much like the same juggernaut as last season. It was a very different story away from Chase Center though, with their 28th-ranked defense contributing to a horrible 11-30 road record.

Green was beat out for All-Defensive First-Team honours by Evan Mobley, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Brook Lopez. Coincidentally, all three of those players were part of teams that were eliminated in the first-round of the playoffs. In fact, none of the First-Team selections remain as active participants of this season.

The former Defensive Player of the Year was joined in the Second-Team by fellow frontcourt players O.G Anunoby and Bam Adebayo. Green’s controversial rival Dillon Brooks was also selected alongside Derrick White to round out the five.

It’s the fourth All-Defensive Second-Team selection for Green, adding to his four in the First-Team that came in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2021. He’s only missed out on making an All-Defensive appearance once in the past nine seasons, that being the disastrous 2019-20 season where the Warriors finished with the worst record in the league.

Green will use this latest accolade as part of contract negotiations this offseason, not that the Warriors need any more convincing of what he does for them on that end. The 33-year-old has a $27.6 million player option for next season, but could opt out and become an unrestricted free agent.
