4 stars the Golden State Warriors could trade Jordan Poole for this summer
Star No. 3: Bradley Beal, Washington Wizards
Two offseasons ago, the Golden State Warriors came to their first inflection point with the “Two Timelines” approach. Armed with a pair of lottery picks, would they take and develop a pair of teenagers, try to draft older “win-now” players (something of a draft myth) or use those picks to trade for a veteran star with proven ability in the league?
The Warriors opted for Door No. 1, but there was plenty of chatter around opening Door No. 3. Specifically, Bradley Beal was a named mentioned as a player who was potentially gettable for the right price. The former All-Star guard dueled Stephen Curry for the scoring title and had come into his own following the injuries to John Wall and his subsequent trade out of town.
Beal is a career 37.2 percent shooter from three-point range, at times from very high volume, and has an elite on-ball scoring ability. He also has thrived alongside another on-ball star, coming into his own with Wall and then averaging 31.3 points per game alongside Russell Westbrook in 2020-21. He and Curry could run similar actions off-ball and force defenses into impossible decisions.
The difficulty in adding Beal via trade is twofold. First, he would need to waive his no-trade clause, which means he prioritizes winning over having his own team. Secondly, his $46.7 million salary becomes difficult to match even with Jordan Poole’s contract as a starting point. Golden State would need to stack nearly every non-star on the roster or include a player like Andrew Wiggins, both of which would be difficult to pull off.
