Ranking 5 Golden State Warriors free agent targets with ties to Stephen Curry
By Tyler Watts
3. Mason Plumlee
The Warriors love Kevon Looney, but they have relied on going small whenever he’s off the floor. Could the Dubs look to add another true center this summer? Anthony Davis and LeBron James have dominated Golden State on the glass for stretches because of their lack of size. Having a versatile 6’11 big man would be massive for the Warriors, especially if Draymond Green exits this summer.
Plumlee is an outstanding screen-setter, rebounder, and passer. He averaged 9.2 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 3.2 assists in 25.7 minutes per game over the last three seasons combined. Plumlee helped the Denver Nuggets reach the Conference Finals in the bubble, but that is the closest he has come to winning a championship.
Would the 33-year-old be willing to join the Dubs on a minimum contract for a shot at a ring? Plumlee could be played off the floor in the playoffs, but he would give them a steady option whenever their opponent plays big.
He is an underrated passer and his screens would certainly free Stephen Curry for some wide-open shots. They played together for Team USA at the 2014 FIBA World Cup, and Mason Plumlee was linked to the Warriors in the 2023 buyout market before he landed with the LA Clippers. Could he reunite with Curry in San Francisco next season? Plumlee will have multiple suitors when he hits the open market, but do not rule it out.
