2 Jonathan Kuminga trades to land the Golden State Warriors a star: OG Anunoby
Raptors receive: Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody, Gary Payton II, First-round pick
Warriors receive: OG Anunoby
This is a trade that had some legs during the regular season. However, according to CJ Holmes of the San Francisco Chronicle, the Warriors didn’t want to match the Toronto Raptors’ asking price.
Toronto reportedly wanted Jonathan Kuminga, another player, and picks in a trade, but Golden State weren’t willing to match that. However, now that the season is over, maybe the Warriors would reconsider.
It’s become more clear than ever that the Golden State need more win-now pieces on the roster. There’s a chance that Kuminga could turn himself into that soon, but OG Anunoby is capable of helping them win right away.
Anunoby just wrapped up an incredible defensive season that saw him named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team. Adding him to the rotation could create a starting lineup of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, Anunoby, and Kevon Looney. Obviously, Draymond Green would be a part of that (and Anunoby could come off the bench), but there’s some smoke surrounding his potential departure from the team.
Regardless, upgrading from Kuminga to Anunoby would be huge for the Warriors. It would be brutal to also give up Moses Moody, and the team might be unwilling to trade Gary Payton II after they just got him back, but for Anunoby, it might be worth it.
He may not be a star in the traditional sense, but like Wiggins, he’s a star in his role.
