3 prospects the Golden State Warriors should consider with 19th overall pick
By Rohan Borges
1. Jordan Hawkins
Hawkins has been projected to go as high as 11th overall, but if for some reason he is still on the board at 19th, he would be an ideal pickup for Golden State. In his Sophomore season at UConn, the 6’5 combo guard led the Huskies to a national championship averaging 16.2 points per game – nearly an 11-point increase from his Freshman year.
Hawkins showed off a refined offensive game, amplified by his impressive athleticism. He has shown promise as a scorer, wielding a smooth shooting stroke, and the ability to create for himself in the half-court. Hawkins has a sound mid-range game and he shot 38.8% from three-point range in his second year.
Defensively, he has displayed tremendous upside and his instincts popped at the college level. Hawkins is an incredible on-ball defender and he makes great use of his physical tools, constantly pestering ball-handlers at the point-of-attack. He has enough lateral quickness to guard three positions, and he can contest perimeter shots effectively without leaving his feet.
Hawkins flourishes in the open court and his combination of length, size, and agility allows him to excel in transition. He loves to run the floor, and he can easily maneuver finishes over bigger defenders at the rim when given the opportunity.
Selecting Hawkins with the 19th overall pick would provide the Dubs with a young, two-way talent that can contribute right away, and potentially develop into a cornerstone piece down the line.
