With the 2023-23 NBA season now in the rearview mirror, focus has immediately turned to which teams could dethrone the Denver Nuggets and win the 2024 championship. For a team with four titles in the last nine years, the Golden State Warriors plan on going nowhere when it comes to being a lead candidate for next season.

The Warriors were eliminated by the Los Angeles Lakers in the second-round of the playoffs, ending a turbulent season that never quite gathered momentum after Draymond Green’s king hit on Jordan Poole during training camp.

The Golden State Warriors remain in championship contention for next season according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

With Golden State expected to re-sign Draymond Green should he opt out of his player option and become a free agent, there’s optimism the Warriors can return to contention led by their veteran core of Green, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.

According to Fanduel Sportsbook, the 2022 NBA champions are fifth-favorite for the 2024 championship. Unsurprisingly, having reached the top of the tree with a young team, the Nuggets are favorites to repeat at +450.

The Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks share the second line of favoritism at +500, while the Phoenix Suns are second of the Western Conference teams at +800. The Warriors are at +1200 just ahead of the Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Lakers (+1400).

Aside from Denver who appear near-flawless after losing just four games during their postseason run, all the other prominent favorites face major issues to address this offseason. After a disappointing Eastern Conference Finals defeat against the Miami Heat, the Celtics most pressing matter surrounds the future of Jaylen Brown who is eligible for a five-year, $295 million supermax extension.

Like the Warriors with Green, the Bucks will have to deal with their own free agent star in Khris Middleton, albeit he’s a lot more likely to opt in to his $40.4 million deal for next season.

As always, odds will shift based on what happens with trades and free agency. Expect odds for the Suns or Heat to crunch in depending on who wins the race for Washington Wizards’ guard Bradley Beal. The Athletic’s Shams Charania reports they’re the finalists for the three-time All-Star’s services, with a trade potentially imminent in the coming hours/days.

With Mike Dunleavy Jr. in as the Warriors new General Manager, the franchise could make a statement by dealing Jordan Poole and/or Jonathan Kuminga this offseason. Such a move would solidify Golden State’s win-now intentions and their place as a lead contender next year’s championship.
