Trade No. 2: Attach that pick to Poole for a star

Again, it’s certainly possible that the Warriors trade up into the top ten to select a specific player they have their sights on. Taylor Hendricks is a big 3-and-D forward that would be an excellent fit on the Warriors, Jarace Walker could be groomed as Draymond Green’s replacement, or a ball-handler like Anthony Black could be inserted into the mix.

Still, the most likely path forward for a Warriors team trying to maximize the remainder of Stephen Curry’s prime is to make a deal for a veteran. Armed with Jordan Poole’s contract, a top ten pick, and either future draft capital or their few remaining youngsters, the Warriors can go shopping on the market alongside many of the other suitors for a star.

Do they go after Zach LaVine or Bradley Beal to slot a secondary scoring threat next to Stephen Curry in the backcourt? Do they call about Karl-Anthony Towns to give them their first offensively-minded star big since David Lee? Could they possibly consider Zion Williamson? What about Pascal Siakam or OG Anunoby from the Toronto Raptors?

Finding a team that has a star to trade, likes Jordan Poole enough to commit to him, and holds a high valuation on Jonathan Kuminga might be a difficult task. It gets much easier if the Warriors can instead offer a top ten pick; every team loves those. If the rumors pick up, don’t be surprised if the rookie GM makes a big swing to start out his new tenure.
