3. Pursuing a Superstar Trade

Given the Warriors’ substantial luxury tax and total payroll that’s nearing $500 million, signing top-tier free agents is not a feasible option. But with some teams parting ways with their superstars, Golden State have been mentioned several times as a potential trade destination. Chris Paul and Bradley Beal are a couple of the names connected to the Warriors in recent trade rumors, both of him appear certain to leave their current teams.

Trading away the young core of the team to acquire another star player would be a desperate move in pursuit of one final run for the dynastic Warriors. However, it would jeopardize the team’s future and undermine the progress made with their young players over the past few years.

Golden State certainly need improvements, especially on the defensive end — their form on that end of the floor in road games this season was one of their primary issues. Yet they don’t need to give up their youngsters to accomplish that.

Their second-round exit against the Los Angeles proved the Dubs need more size and defensive presence. Therefore it certainly wouldn’t be the best idea to give up their future for another offensive star like Paul or Beal.
