4. Replace Donte DiVincenzo

DiVincenzo is still on their roster. He has a $4.7 million player option for next season that he must decide on by June 29. The 6’4 guard took less money to sign with the Warriors last summer, but he is expected to decline his option and seek a larger contract in free agency. Golden State cannot afford to bring him back for additional dollars.

The Warriors will be shopping for free agents at the minimum. The new CBA prevents them from using their mid-level exception because they are over the new second tax apron, so Golden State will have to find a bargain bin replacement for DiVincenzo if he opts out.

With the addition of Chris Paul, the Warriors will likely look for a wing, especially if Jonathan Kuminga is eventually traded. Having another 6’5-plus option on the bench behind Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins would be ideal for the Dubs, especially as they look to matchup against LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard, and Kevin Durant in the Western Conference playoffs.

Golden State will try to convince Donte DiVincenzo to stay, but they cannot afford to keep him if he opts out. The Warriors have already made moves to cut future costs, and they may not be done.
