Golden State Warriors: Jordan Poole gives blunt response regarding Draymond Green
Young guard Jordan Poole has spoken for the first time since his exit from the Golden State Warriors, with the 24-year-old officially unveiled as a member of the Washington Wizards on Friday.
The blockbuster draft day trade was officially completed earlier in the week, leaving former Warriors in Poole, Patrick Baldwin Jr. and Ryan Rollins as Wizards in exchange for Chris Paul and 57th overall pick Trayce Jackson-Davis.
Jordan Poole has given a blunt response in regard to his relationship with former Golden State Warriors’ teammate Draymond Green.
It was a turbulent fourth and final season for Poole at the Warriors, with the jubilation of his first NBA championship quickly wiped away by a training camp king hit from veteran teammate Draymond Green.
Poole’s regular season was productive but inconsistent, while his playoff form was disastrous which rendered him nearly unplayable. Asked about his relationship with Green and the impact it had on the season, Poole simply replied, “we’re in Washington now.”
Poole’s rise from late first-round pick to $120+ million player has been quite remarkable, undoubtedly aided by the tutorship of experienced backcourt duo Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.
While he was hardly in the mood to discuss his controversial relationship with Green, Poole was much more willing to offer an insight to what he hopes is a competitive but healthy connection with Curry and Thompson.
"“Well those are the two greatest shooters of all-time in my opinion”, Poole said. Also built a relationship where I can ask them — I can text Steph. I can text Klay. I can call them. Have a conversation. That doesn’t leave. That doesn’t go anywhere. If anything, I just know the plays that they run.”"
Both Poole and the Warriors must be eagerly anticipating their first matchup against each other next season, though they’ll only meet twice during the regular season given they’re in opposing conferences.
A prodigious offensive-talent, it will be interesting to see how Poole’s career develops with more responsibility in Washington. Of more intrigue is how the dynamic between he and Green materializes as rivals out on the floor.
