Golden State Warriors to get early look at pacific rivals and French phenom
The last time the Golden State Warriors took to the NBA floor, they were eliminated by the Los Angeles Lakers in the second-round of the postseason. It’s only appropriate that’s who they face first to tip-off their 2023-24 season, albeit in preseason action.
The NBA preseason schedule was announced on Wednesday, with the Warriors to play five games against three different opponents across a two-week period beginning on October 7 at Chase Center against the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Golden State Warriors’ preseason schedule includes two games against each of their pacific rivals in the Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings.
That opening game may provide the first opportunity to see the franchise’s newest acquisition, Chris Paul, playing in a Warrior jersey for the first-time, along with free agent signings Dario Saric and Cory Joseph.
Golden State will head to Los Angeles to play the Lakers at Crypto.com Arena on October 13, beginning a four-game stretch in eight days. Their first game against the Sacramento Kings will come on October 15 at Golden 1 Center, before a return bout at Chase Center three days later.
Golden State’s final preseason outing will come against the San Antonio Spurs at Chase Center on October 20, providing a potential early look at French phenom and number one overall pick Victor Wembanyama.
The Spurs are destined to be a much more intriguing team next season, led by the 7’4″ Wembanyama who enters the league as one of the greatest prospects in NBA history.
The preseason may mean little for Warrior veterans like Paul, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, but for many it will provide an opportunity to push for rotation minutes, or even simply a spot on the opening night roster.
Golden State currently have 13 contracted players at this point of the offseason. There’s a distinct possibility that will remain heading into training camp, providing an avenue for players to battle it out for a spot over preseason.
