Golden State Warriors: James Harden outburst reiterates Stephen Curry’s greatness
It might be the middle of August but there’s never a dull moment in the NBA. Disgruntled Philadelphia 76ers’ star James Harden, a long time rival of the Golden State Warriors, caused quite the stir with a shocking clip that went viral on Monday.
The former MVP is currently in China awaiting a trade that doesn’t seem forthcoming from the 76ers. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported over the weekend that Harden’s demands have fallen on deaf ears, with Philadelphia ending trade discussions surrounding the 10-time All-Star.
James Harden’s outburst regarding General Manager Daryl Morey reiterates the greatness of Golden State Warriors’ star Stephen Curry.
In response to Wojnarowski’s report, Harden has gone on a scathing attack of 76er GM Daryl Morey during a public event in China. The 33-year-old labelled Morey a ‘liar’ and claimed he “will never be a part of an organization that he’s a part of.”
Things are getting toxic for the championship-contending 76ers, with Harden seemingly want no part of a reunion when training camp gets underway in less than two months time.
This now the third time Harden has requested a trade away from a franchise, having previously done so with the Houston Rockets and Brooklyn Nets. Yet Harden is far from the only all-time great player to have done so, further shining a light on those who haven’t.
One of those is Warrior superstar Stephen Curry. The two-time MVP is preparing for his 15th season with Golden State, a rare and remarkable feat in a league where player movement is now so prominent.
Not once has Curry considered leaving the franchise, at least publicly. In fact, the closest he has come to departing the Warriors was way back in 2012 when, if not for conservative Milwaukee doctors, he may have been traded to the Bucks.
Curry’s legacy will always start and end with his three-point shooting — the greatest ever and a transcendent aspect that’s changed the game. Yet instances like these also reiterate the greatness of the 35-year-old’s character, a somewhat intangible value that only plays out in the fullness of time.
The result is four NBA championships and a lifetime of love from a devoted fanbase. Curry’s selflessness and self-assurance has proven an indelible element to he and the Warriors’ success since his arrival nearly a decade-and-a-half ago.
It also showcases the relationships that have been cultivated at the franchise over this period, particularly in the last nine years. It’s not perfect, last season illustrated that. Yet it maintains as a special period that should never be taken for granted, and Curry is at the head of it.
