Having already made a blockbuster trade this offseason, the pressure is now on the Golden State Warriors to deliver after a disappointing second-round exit at the hands of the Los Angeles Lakers in this year’s playoffs.

The franchise has doubled-down on their veteran trio of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, deal a haul of young assets centered around Jordan Poole for a 38-year-old Chris Paul.

With a championship well and truly on the agenda, the Golden State Warriors are sure to consider any move that adds bonafide star power to their arsenal.

It’s unlikely that the Warriors pull off another trade in the remaining two months before the start of next season. However, an important start will be important in ensuring the franchise meets the expectation of championship contention.

We saw what happened when the Warriors failed to recapture their best in 2022-23. After constant speculation dating back to early last season, then General Manager Bob Myers made a noteworthy move in sending out former number two overall pick James Wiseman for fan-favorite Gary Payton II in a multi-team deal across the final hours before February’s trade deadline.

Remember, the franchise had points in the bank last season after the 2022 championship. Myers as a GM also had a strong reputation built from four titles across over a decade in the role. They won’t have that next season, and new GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. has already shown no hesitation in changing things up.

In the meantime, he and the front office won’t turn a blind eye to any deal that adds star power and improves their chance for a fifth championship in ten seasons. A recent proposed trade does exactly that, so let’s unpack it from both sides.
