With the NBA Schedule now in place, expectations can be set for the Golden State Warriors’ 2023-24 season. Over the next few weeks, Blue Man Hoop will provide projections on the franchise’s win-loss record with a month-by-month preview.
Ten games at Chase Center should set the Warriors up for a succesful 14-game stint in the opening month of the New Year. Golden State do have two back-to-backs and twice play three games in four days, potentially opening up some issues for the veteran squad. Expect some resting to take play among the older core, which may harm their record for the month as a result.
January 2, 2024: vs. Orlando Magic 7:00 PM
Possessing high-quality talent like Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner, the Magic will always be capable of producing an upset this season. Still, the Warriors will be heavy favorites on their home floor.
Result: Golden State win
January 4, 2024: vs. Denver Nuggets 7:00 PM
This appears like a truly 50-50 game assuming both teams are fully healthy. It will be difficult to go against Denver in any game this season, such was their domination during the playoffs.
Result: Golden State loss
January 5, 2024: vs. Detroit Pistons 7:00 PM
Golden State suffered a shock loss to Detroit at Chase Center last season, going down on a buzzer-beating three-pointer from Saddiq Bey. They’ll be confident of turning the tables this time around.
Result: Golden State win
January 7, 2024: vs. Toronto Raptors 5:30 PM
A third-game in four nights never bodes well for teams, even if all the games have been on their home floor. Toronto could look totally different by this point with rumors circulating around Pascal Siakam, O.G Anunoby and the likes. If they don’t make any rebuilding moves, their current roster is talented enough to beat a weary Warriors here.
Result: Golden State loss
January 10, 2024: vs. New Orleans Pelicans 7:00 PM
A two-day break will do the Warriors well and they should be good enough to beat the visiting Pelicans in this one.
Result: Golden State win
January 12, 2024: at Chicago Bulls 5:00 PM
The Bulls are another team who could look different by January 12, but so far they seem committed to the trio of Zach Lavine, DeMar DeRozan and Nikola Vucevic. They’re capable of winning but Golden State will be clear favorites assuming health.
Result: Golden State win
January 13, 2024: at Milwaukee Bucks 5:00 PM
The Bucks were 32-9 on their home floor last season and few, if any teams are going to enter Milwaukee as favorites.
Result: Golden State loss
January 15, 2024: at Memphis Grizzlies 3:00 PM
Memphis will have regained Ja Morant by this point and will be a formidable task on their home floor.
Result: Golden State loss
January 17, 2024: at Utah Jazz 6:00 PM
The Warriors managed to suffer defeat from the hands of victory in Utah last season, going down despite leading by four with 13.9 seconds remaining. They’ll be confident of ensuring a similar result doesn’t take place again.
Result: Golden State win
January 19, 2024: vs. Dallas Mavericks 7:00 PM
The Mavericks should be a bigger threat next season after an ultra-disappointing 11th-place finish in 2022-23. Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving will be incredibly dangerous, but Golden State should still be favorites.
Result: Golden State win
January 24, 2024: vs. Atlanta Hawks 7:00 PM
The Warriors and Hawks played one of the games of the season at Chase Center on New Year’s Day. It took Kevon Looney’s first career buzzer-beating game winner to separate the teams after two periods of overtime. Golden State will be hoping for the same result again, albeit not as close.
Result: Golden State win
January 25, 2024: vs. Sacramento Kings 7:00 PM
The Warriors will be on the second night of a back-to-back while Sacramento will enter Chase after a two-day break. That in itself may set up a Kings victory.
Result: Golden State loss
January 27, 2024: vs. Los Angeles Lakers 5:30 PM
The Lakers have a good record against the Warriors in recent times. Not only did they win their second-round playoff battle in six games, but they went 3-1 during the regular season. A third game in four days doesn’t help Golden State here either.
Result: Golden State loss
January 30, 2024: vs. Philadelphia 76ers 7:00 PM
A couple day break for the Warriors before hosting a 76er team who is in disarray right now with the James Harden fiasco. If they sort that out then they’re more than capable of getting a win, but there’s too many issues right now to consider that a likely scenario.
Result: Golden State win
Projected win-loss record in January: 8-6
Cumulative win-loss record: 26-18
