2. Poole extension

Jordan Poole was a draft selection Bob Myers hit. He quickly made an impact as a scorer and averaged 20.4 points per game last season. Poole struggles defensively and is far from a star, but he was the 28th overall pick. Fans can quibble if they want as Keldon Johnson, Nic Claxton, and Kevin Porter Jr. were still on the board, but Poole played a key role in the team’s 2021 title run.

The mistake was inking him to a four-year $128 million extension in 2022. They wanted to keep him from restricted free agency, but $32 million per season is rich for a sixth man whose defense can keep him off the floor in crunch time.

Golden State traded Poole after Myers’ departure with a 2030 first-round pick and a 2027 second-round pick to get Chris Paul. Given that CP3 is 38 years old and on the decline, it was a shocking move. The Dubs ditched the two-timeline plan and went all-in on winning the championship in 2024. It goes to show how little value the 24-year-old had around the league as the Warriors had to add two draft picks to get a former star point guard.

Bob Myers put the Golden State Warriors in that position with Jordan Poole’s extension. Perhaps, the 6’4 guard can become an All-Star in the nation’s capital and live up to his contract, but it was a mistake for the Dubs to give it to him.
