Sworn enemies for over a decade, the thought of Draymond Green and Chris Paul taking to the floor together for the Golden State Warriors is still an unnatural one for many.

The reality is set to kick in with the Warriors opening night matchup against Paul’s former team, the Phoenix Suns, less than six weeks away. But going by recent comments, Green has already acclimatized to the idea of playing alongside the veteran point-guard.

Golden State Warriors’ forward Draymond Green has already transitioned from despising Chris Paul to an overarching aim to help him win his first NBA title.

In a recent interview with Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN, Green was asked to rate his despise of his new teammate on a scale between one and ten.

"“Eleven! I hated him,” an adamant Green responded. “Eleven! But I think that’s also a sign of respect.”"

Youngmisuk also interviewed Mike Dunleavy Jr., with the new Warrior General Manager adding that there was “some pause” from Green, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson when the possibility of adding Paul was raised.

But now that Paul is officially a Golden State player, there’s only one goal in mind for Green who will be looking to add a fifth NBA championship to his resumé in 2024.

"“I look at this as one of the most important years of my career. It’s not to redeem anything about Draymond. My goal is that we can help Chris Paul get his first championship.”"

It’s a positive sentiment from Green who’s previous relationship (or lack thereof) with Paul could have been cause for concern heading into the season. It’s also the sort of unselfish notion the Warriors will need in their hopes of returning to the NBA mountaintop.

Despite making the second-round of the playoffs, Golden State’s 2022-23 season was characterized by a lack of connection and chemistry. That begun with Green and his infamous altercation with the now departed Jordan Poole in training camp.

A healthy and productive Green-Paul relationship could prove the seed that grows infectious among their teammates in 2023-24. While the former Defensive Player of the Year doesn’t hide from his previous hatred of the long-time foe, he appears determined and focused to make things work successfully.
