Golden State Warriors: Ranking 5 interesting ex-players to watch for in 2023-24
1 & 2. Jordan Poole + Patrick Baldwin Jr.
Patrick Baldwin Jr. was the final wrinkle in the blockbuster trade between the Warriors and Wizards on draft day in June. The 2022 first-round pick had a solid rookie season for Golden State, showcasing his shooting skills albeit in understandably limited minutes.
His inclusion in the Jordan Poole-Chris Paul trade will be an interesting point to evaluate. Many Golden State fans were left disappointed with his departure, but others are more focused on his replacement – 23-year-old rookie Trayce Jackson-Davis whom the Warriors acquired for Baldwin in the deal.
Baldwin is likely to earn some minutes off the bench for the Wizards this season, while the same probably won’t be said for another former Warrior in Ryan Rollins. Will he deliver on the talent that saw him as a five-star recruit coming out of high school, or will his involvement in the trade prove non-eventful?
While Baldwin will be an interesting player to watch, tuning into Wizards games will be primarily about watching Poole. Despite an horrific playoff showing in 2023, the 24-year-old will always have love in the Bay for his key part in the 2022 championship team.
There will be ongoing debate surrounding the Poole-Paul trade, with assumptions undoubtedly to be made depending on how each player starts the season. Poole still holds the talent to become an All-Star and make the franchise regret their decision to move him.
However, he also begun building a reputation last season as a careless ball-handler with inefficient scoring and little to no defense. Warrior fans will be sure to watch on to see which version of Poole turns up in Washington.
